Lucknow Christian Degree College (LCDC) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1862 by American missionary Rev. James Hager Messmore, the college is affiliated with the University of Lucknow and prepares students for leadership and service in society.
Established in 1862 as a school in the Husainabad area of the old city of Lucknow, the institution was founded by Rev. James Hager Messmore, an American missionary. The school was shifted to various locations over the years, including Inayat Bagh and Victoria Street, before finally settling in Golaganj in 1883 with the construction of Reid Hall. In 1889, the college received permission to start degree classes in Arts and Science, initially affiliated with the University of Calcutta. When the University of Lucknow was established in 1922, the degree classes were transferred to its affiliation.
Today, Lucknow Christian Degree College is an Associate Post Graduate College of the University of Lucknow, run by the Lucknow Christian College Society under the Methodist Church in India.
